Training & Safety Division

The Training and Safety Division is a critical element of Aptos/La Selva Fire Protection District. It is the mission of the Training and Safety Division to provide quality training, instruction, and evaluation to our members.  The expectations are to provide the necessary training and education to prepare our District personnel to serve the community in the most productive and professional manner.  The overarching goal is to ensure our personnel are prepared to meet the responsibilities of an All-Hazard Fire District.  The Training and Safety Division is also responsible for providing information, education, and training to improve and protect the overall health and wellness for all employees of the District.

Responsibilities

The Training and Safety Division is responsible for developing and providing comprehensive fire suppression, emergency medical service, aquatic rescue and technical rescue instruction to the safety personnel of the District. The Training and Safety Division also provides training for our Administrative and Community Risk Reduction Staff in order to stay up to date with the latest information, laws, regulations and technology available. This is accomplished with on-going training for all personnel. The Training and Safety Division coordinates training needed to comply with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and California Code of Regulations (CCR).

The Training Division consist of one Battalion Chief, two Captains and one Administrative Assistant all assigned on a full time basis.  The Training and Safety Division work under the Operations Chief who provides the financial, logistical and administrative support to ensure that all of the training and safety needs of all personnel are met.  The Training and Safety Division works with other Santa Cruz County fire agencies in an effort to standardize training and develop a countywide Health and Wellness Program.
